Sea, Sun & Sand at the Serene Beaches of Udupi

The sunset beaches always fascinated me more for their Melodrama. It was time for another trip to the Sea on our Mothership Tiago and the Pets. So it would be me, Rimjhim, Voxy, Pixy and Puchki. We had a well laid out plan for the 2 dogs and the cat to travel in the hatchback based on all our past trips.

Putting them in the car is easy, getting together for a pic is difficult

There is something about Charmady road that is absolutely bliss to drive. The Hassan to Sakleshpur road is perpetually under construction and this is the best option since many years now. However the road is so twisty and curvy that passengers are sure to be nauseous if not driven with care. Plus the addition of a million speed breakers makes sure its always a busy ride.

Charmadi is the best option for Mangalore / Udupi from Bangalore

The first person in the Car that usually smells the Ocean is Voxy. Her eye just lights up with the sight of water. From that moment on, its always a struggle to keep her from jumping out of the car. These dogs have all the patience in the world but not when you keep such a big treat in front of them!

After crossing the Malpe bridge, we reached our destination for 3 days called "Pithrody Udyavar Beach". The specialty of this beach is the presence of Sea on one side and backwater on the other.

Our goal was to camp on the beach so we booked campsite called Zone 51 Water Adventures. It was a lovely campsite but they had a dog of their own which meant that our cat cannot be left free. However we dumped our luggage in our tent and rushed to see the sunset. It was Puchki's first time in a Beach looking at the sunset. and as expected she wanted to run away!

However, all our excitement poured down our sweat when we were drenched in the heat in the tent. we tried sleeping outside but to no avail. Finally we decided to switch to another place nearby which has atleast a fan. Note to others visiting, please book the AC accomodations soon as they get booked pretty early. This place stays hot all year round but the views are worth it.

Next day we went for a morning dip with the fur babies. Voxy Pixy were alright but Puchki was still not in the mood for it

Cats dont like Beaches!

We checked into a Eco-sattva hotel which had some funky shaped tents and hammocks

After letting puchki and dogs rest in the room under the fan, we set out to explore the neighbouring areas. We even saw some lands and houses for sale. It seems there was some Marina park coming and prices increased! For a 8 cent land, they were quoting Rs 32 Lakhs!

We started to head out to St. Mary's Island but the counter only accepted Cash and we didnt have any. So we chilled around and did photography instead

We also got a million photos of Voxy and Pixy playing around in the sunset!

With super salty memories, we decided to head back to Bangalore. However our adventure was not ending there. Similar to what happened in Leh, while climbing the Charmady ghat on our return journey, our car started giving Fuel Pump issues again. This was mostly due to overheat and stress of climbing as taking breaks of 5 -10 mins would recover the vehicle. after struggling for over 50 Kms, we finally reached the Hassan plains from where the Car was completely back to normal. The first job after reaching was to change the Fuel pump which costed around Rs 11,000!

We spend our 3rd year Marriage anniversary in 2021 here and it was every bit fond! Apart from Udyagiri, there are plenty of other places around Udupi to explore like the St. Mary's island, Mattu Beach, Kaup Lighthouse, Padubidri, Fingerprint Island, Sea walk Malpe, Daria Bahadurgarh Fort, Malpe Island Fort. Which will take 2-3 days easily. And the Icing of the cake, all of these beaches will have minimal tourist footfall which makes it ideal to peace out!
